My friend Megan gave me a recipe for homemade instant oatmeal. We had it for breakfast today, and it was awesome! Not only is it better tasting and cheaper than Quaker instant oatmeal (especially when some of us can eat several packets) but much better for you.
Here's the base recipe:
Instant Oatmeal
3 cups quick oats
Take 1 cup of oats and process them in a blender or food processor until powdery. (do only 1/2 cup at a time). Add the powdered oats to the remaining quick oats. Stir in 1 teaspoon of salt.
Mix well and store in airtight container. Shake before pouring into bowl. Add as much boiling water as you need for the right consistency.
For Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal: Stir in 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup chopped dried apples and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
You could add just about any dry ingredients that you would like to this to make it your own. Experiment some and enjoy!
